DCSCS Exchange Program

The North American Mobility Project: Developing Civil Society Education via Case Studies: A North American Perspective

Skip to:

Overview
The Center is pleased to participate in a multi-year, trilateral DCSCS exchange program that focuses on providing students from the United States, Canada, and Mexico with an in-depth and comparative perspective on the complex and changing nature of the nonprofit sector and civil society in North America.

By the end of 2010, seven UW graduate-level and upper division undergraduate students will have had the opportunity to study at partner institutions Carleton University (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada), McGill University (Montreal, Quebec, Canada), El Colegio Mexiquense, A.C. (Toluca, Mexico), and Instituto Tecnologicio y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (Mexico City, Mexico); work on trilateral teams; enroll in new case-study based, nonprofit management courses specifically designed for the program; work closely with local nonprofit organizations; and submit group case studies for possible publication on the Evans School's Electronic Hallway. A total of 50 students from the six partner institutions (including University of Texas at Austin) will participate in the exchange over the life of the program.

Students may also enroll in electives through other departments at Carleton University. For more information on available courses, please contact Sandra Jones at Carleton University’s Centre for Voluntary Sector Research and Development.

Housing
Students are responsible for making their own housing arrangements.

The Department of Housing and Conference Services at Carleton University offers information regarding on-campus and off-campus housing for exchange students. Once students have been assigned a student ID, they can apply on line directly through the on-campus housing website. If a student is interested in residence they should apply as soon as possible as residence fills quickly. There are a few rooms especially reserved for Intl exchange students in Leeds Campus. Inquiries for off-campus housing can be made through the Housing Office. Costs are approximately $400-$600 and may or may not include utilities (gas, electricity, telephone)
